Cameroonian president returns home after over two months abroad

YAOUNDE, Aug. 22 — Cameroonian President Paul Biya returned home Thursday afternoon after spending more than two months abroad.

State broadcaster CRTV aired his arrival live from Nsimalen International Airport in the capital Yaounde. Supporters from the ruling Cameroon People’s Democratic Movement gathered at the airport to welcome him. Prime Minister Joseph Dion Ngute received the president after his plane landed. Biya briefly waved to the crowd from his vehicle as a motorcade left the airport for the presidential palace. The president left Cameroon June 7 for what the presidency described at the time as “a brief private stay in Europe.”  Biya, 93, has led Cameroon since 1982.
