Botswana bourse appoints new CEO

GABORONE, Jan. 25– Aobakwe Aupa Monyatsi has been appointed as the Botswana Stock Exchange’s new chief executive officer. The appointment marks a pivotal moment in the BSE’s journey to transform Botswana‘s financial markets into a premier capital-raising hub for Africa, the BSE said in a statement Friday. “This aligns with Botswana‘s broader national objective of fostering economic growth and solidifying its reputation as a financial gateway to Africa,” BSE chairperson Neo Mooki was quoted as saying in the statement. According to Mooki, Monyatsi brings over 20 years of senior management experience, with a notable career spanning pan-African markets, financial innovation, and digital transformation. She said Monyatsi’s appointment is more than just an operational decision but a national calling to strengthen Botswana‘s capital markets, adding that the BSE plays a critical role in attracting investment, facilitating access to funding for businesses, and creating opportunities for wealth generation that benefit both Botswana and the wider African continent. Monyatsi said his role is to heighten the BSE as a catalyst for economic transformation by fostering innovation, inclusivity, and collaboration within the financial ecosystem. “Together with our stakeholders, we will unlock Botswana‘s potential as a leader in Africa’s capital markets and deliver long-term value for issuers, investors, and the nation as a whole,” Monyatsi said.
