Botswana appoints new envoy to Ethiopia, AU

GABORONE, Jan. 16– Botswana on Monday announced the appointment of a new ambassador to Ethiopia and the African Union (AU). According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mokgweetsi Masisi, president of Botswana, appointed Tebelelo Alfred Boang as the ambassador. A seasoned career diplomat with more than 20 years of foreign service experience, Boang rose through the ranks, serving in various capacities at Botswana’s diplomatic missions abroad and at headquarters. Boang is expected to, among other things, facilitate Botswana’s contributions to the continental development agenda, including the AU’s transformative Agenda 2063, which seeks to realize “an integrated, prosperous, and peaceful Africa,” according to the ministry. Boang will take up his new position in February 2024.
