Behind The MultiChoice Spotlight with Adriano Visagie

Windhoek, Aug 24 — What began as a conversation with media students at the College of the Arts (COTA) in Katutura four years ago eventually grew into inspiring series dedicated to unlocking opportunities for aspiring creatives across Namibia.

The MultiChoice Spotlight with Adriano Visagie Masterclass was founded after Visagie encountered a recurring concern among young creatives: Why do opportunities in the creative industry often seem more accessible to people from certain communities or areas, while others feel excluded or unsure of how to enter the industry?

Having experienced similar challenges during his own journey, Visagie set out to bridge that gap. “This initiative was about creating access, sharing knowledge, and ensuring that the next generation of Namibian creatives understand that their dreams are valid and achievable, regardless of where they come from,” he said. “If we can provide guidance, mentorship, and exposure, we can help unlock extraordinary talent that might otherwise remain undiscovered.”

Abbelene Boer, Head of Communications, remarked that MultiChoice was incredibly proud to have partnered with Visagie by playing a role in enriching the lives of aspiring creatives. “One of our objectives at MultiChoice Namibia is to empower local talent and create opportunities for development within the creative industry, and seeing so many people come together to gain practical skills and build confidence in their abilities was both inspiring and encouraging. We look forward to the group stepping confidently into the spotlight and taking Namibian stories to the world.”

This year’s programme featured four in-person sessions covering topics such as the business of acting, personal branding, social media strategy, and opportunities available through initiatives like the MultiChoice Talent Factory. Beyond technical skills, the sessions inspired confidence and helped creatives transition from aspiration to action. The inclusion of industry leaders and guest speakers such as Florian Schott, Tim Heubschle, and Gantane Kusch also added tremendous value to the programme.

“Their willingness to share their expertise provided participants with diverse perspectives and real-world experiences, making the learning process richer for everyone involved, including myself, and echoed the importance of collaboration,” Visagie stated.

Stepping into the role of mentor offered a different kind of fulfillment than performing on stage or in front of the camera for Visagie. Rather than showcasing his own talents, he focused on creating a safe and supportive environment where participants could discover and develop their own voices.

“Success in the industry doesn’t come from imitating someone else’s journey,” he said. “It comes from embracing your unique talents, perspectives and story.”

Held at MultiChoice Namibia, the masterclasses encouraged open dialogue, experimentation and growth without fear of judgment. With overwhelmingly positive feedback, Visagie said participants praised the practical nature of the sessions.

Interestingly, the masterclass attracted more than aspiring actors. Musicians, performers, content creators and emerging artists also attended, reflecting growing demand for platforms that support Namibia’s wider creative economy. At the heart of the masterclass is a simple but powerful message: Know your purpose and remain authentic.

After spending time with the participants, Visagie remains optimistic about the future of the performing arts in Namibia. He describes the next generation of creatives as “passionate, ambitious, innovative and dedicated” to learning both the artistic and business aspects of their craft.

“They are not waiting for opportunities to come to them,” he noted. “They are actively seeking knowledge, developing their skills and positioning themselves to succeed.”

Inspired by their enthusiasm and determination, Visagie says the future of the performing arts in Namibia is bright, with young creatives poised to become the storytellers, innovators and cultural ambassadors of tomorrow.
