Bali tightens security ahead of 2nd Indonesia-Africa Forum

JAKARTA, Aug. 24 — Indonesia is tightening security on its resort island of Bali in preparation for the second Indonesia-Africa Forum (IAF) slated for early next month, local police said. Bali police’s operational bureau chief Soelistijono informed the local media on Friday that the security personnel have been coordinating their efforts since Monday for the upcoming second IAF and the High-Level Forum on Multi-Stakeholder Partnerships. The two international events are scheduled to take place concurrently on the island from Sept. 1 to 3. According to Soelistijono, the national police has deployed more than 4,000 personnel and will collaborate with other security institutions, such as the Indonesian military and the National Counterterrorism Agency (BNPT). The second IAF will gather 28 heads of state and 800 representatives of governments, international and regional organizations, and businesses from Indonesia and Africa.
