Asmus, Shriever claim BMX world championships after finals canceled in Brisbane

BRISBANE, Australia, July 19 — Australia’s Jesse Asmus and Britain’s Bethany Shriever were crowned the men’s and women’s elite champions at the 2026 BMX Racing World Championships after Sunday’s finals were canceled because of persistent strong winds in Brisbane. Under Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) regulations, when a competition is canceled before the finals, the results from the last completed round in each category are used to determine the final standings. Asmus topped the men’s elite classification ahead of Britain’s Ross Cullen and France’s Mathis Ragot Richard. Shriever finished first in the women’s elite classification, with Australia’s reigning Olympic champion Saya Sakakibara second and the Netherlands’ Laura Smulders third. It was Asmus’ maiden world title, while Shriever retained the title she won in 2025 to claim her fourth women’s elite world championship.
