Namibia’s visa on arrival system earns 5.6 million USD since April launch

WINDHOEK, May 26 — Namibia’s Ministry of Home Affairs, Immigration, Safety, and Security said Monday that the country’s Visa on Arrival (VoA) system has generated more than 100 million Namibian dollars (about 5.6 million U.S. dollars) in revenue and facilitated the entry of over 70,000 visitors since its launch in April. “The Visa on Arrival program is not only operational. It is producing tangible and measurable results,” said Executive Director Etienne Maritz in a statement, adding that Namibia remains a highly attractive and accessible destination for international travelers. Maritz said the ministry has significantly streamlined the operational process for arriving passengers. Travelers who previously held eVisas were still required to fill out additional VoA forms upon arrival, a step that has now been eliminated. The upgraded eVisa now functions as both a visa and arrival form, with advance payment and document validation allowing for expedited clearance at immigration checkpoints, according to the ministry. Located in southwestern Africa, Namibia is renowned for its vast desert landscapes, rich wildlife, and iconic natural attractions such as Etosha National Park, the Namib Desert, and the Skeleton Coast. Tourism is a key pillar of Namibia’s economy, contributing substantially to job creation and foreign exchange earnings. Maritz said the visa reforms form part of broader efforts to enhance service delivery and support the recovery of the tourism sector through a simplified and efficient entry system.
