LUSAKA, May 15– Rwanda and Zambia on Monday expressed commitment to enhance cooperation in trade and investment. The commitment was made when Albert Halwampa, director general of the Zambia Development Agency (ZDA), held talks with visiting Rwandan Minister of Trade and Industry Prudence Sebahizi. In his remarks, Halwampa said the ZDA is keen to deepen collaboration with the Rwandan Development Board and Rwanda’s Minister of Trade and Industry in areas of trade and investment. He noted that the two countries share many similarities, particularly under the auspices of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA). According to Halwampa, the two countries could leverage the memorandum of understanding signed in 2022 to deepen bilateral trade and investment cooperation. For his part, the Rwandan minister called on African countries to use the continent’s resources to realize the need for regional value chains through the AfCFTA. Industries in Africa should develop and start exporting finished products if the continent is to be self-sufficient in terms of beneficiation and adding value to natural resources, he added.
