KAMPALA, Sept. 24 — Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni on Tuesday dismissed three senior officials for what he termed as “criminal negligence” after a landfill collapse that claimed over 30 lives. According to a statement from State House, Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA)’s Executive Director Dorothy Kisaka, her deputy David Luyimbazi, and KCCA Public Health Director Daniel Okello were relieved of their duties following an investigation. “The Inspector General of Government’s report clearly outlined the severe oversight and negligence exhibited by these officials,” the statement said, noting that the president has directed the police and other crime management agencies to further investigate the matter. The Kiteezi landfill collapse on Aug. 10 in Kampala, the country’s capital, resulted in over 30 deaths and impacted 1,000 people in surrounding villages.
