WINDHOEK, June 15 — Namibia and Angola on Friday officially launched 24-hour operations at the Oshikango-Santa Clara border posts to boost trade and economic activities between the two nations.
Namibian Minister of Home Affairs, Immigration, Safety and Security Albert Kawana said that the round-the-clock border operations will facilitate the movement of goods and people, ultimately promoting economic growth.
“Today is a joyous day on the economic calendar of the Republic of Namibia and the Republic of Angola,” Kawana said. “At long last, it is a dream to come true, the dream of our two countries to open Oshikango-Santa Clara border posts on a 24-hour basis in order to enhance the movement of goods and people.”
This decision was reached during the Namibia/Angola Joint Permanent Commission on Defense and Security meeting held in Swakopmund in November 2021. The initiative aims to lower costs for businesses and improve trade along the Trans-Cunene Corridor, offering Angola an alternative route through the Port of Walvis Bay.
Kawana also called for investment in advanced logistics technology along this corridor. Furthermore, measures will be put in place to ensure the security and safety of goods and people at the border. Coordination among stakeholders is essential to ensure smooth operations and the fulfillment of economic objectives set by both countries’ leadership.
