Tanzania steps up fight against corruption

DODOMA, April 20 — Tanzanian authorities on Friday announced measures aimed at intensifying the fight against corruption.
The measures were announced in the parliament by the Minister of State in the President’s Office responsible for Public Management Service and Good Governance, George Simbachawene, as he tabled his ministry’s budget estimates for the 2024/2025 financial year.
He said one of the measures is to review anti-corruption laws to give them more teeth in dealing with people involved in corrupt practices.
“The government is currently reviewing the anti-corruption laws to enable them to provide for stringent punishment for people implicated in the social malpractice,” Simbachawene told the House in the national capital of Dodoma.
He cited other measures, such as the establishment of 128 anti-corruption clubs in primary and secondary schools across the country and raising public awareness about the negative effects of this social vice.
