GABORONE, Feb. 19 — In a bid to showcase regional talent and promote African culture through design, the Fashion Week of All Nations Fashion held its exhibition in Gaborone, Botswana, on Friday. Speaking at the event, Daisy Botsoba, director of Starlite Studios, said the exhibition was the event’s first phase, providing a platform for emerging fashion designers to display their creations and gain recognition. She emphasized the importance of revitalizing traditional attire and blending it with modern clothing to create stunning outfits suitable for special occasions, and she urged designers to think creatively and preserve Africa’s rich cultural heritage. Fashion Week of All Nations is a continental African fashion and modeling event that highlights the best of the fashion design industry in Botswana and other African countries. With a focus on promoting local talent and bridging cultural divides, the event brings together fashion designers, models, and industry professionals from diverse backgrounds. The organizers of the event plan to host tours across the country, providing fashion designers in various towns and villages with a platform to showcase their products and talents. “We will be traveling around the country, holding exhibitions with young designers, discussing intellectual property, fashion, and motivating them, showcasing their work to the world,” Botsoba explained. “It’s important for everyone to know that talented designers are here in Botswana, creating amazing clothes that deserve recognition.” The exhibitions serve as a prelude to the main event, the fashion show, scheduled for June. Ten Gaborone designers participated in the exhibition, tasked with creating two African-inspired outfits. The event is open to designers from other African countries as well. Starlight Studio Ltd, based in Gaborone, is the driving force behind Fashion Week of All Nations. As a private company, Starlight Studio aims to empower the community through textile business skills and promote social upliftment through fashion and culture.
