On the sidelines of COP30 in Belém, Federative Republic of Brazil, President Dr. Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah held a bilateral meeting with Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre of the Kingdom of Norway.
The two leaders reaffirmed the long-standing partnership between Namibia and Norway and explored new areas of collaboration in energy, skills development and ocean management.
With Namibia entering a new chapter in oil and gas exploration and production, President Nandi-Ndaitwah underscored the importance of capacity building and knowledge exchange to ensure the sector benefits the Namibian people.
Norway, whose own petroleum journey began in the early 1970s following the discovery of the Ekofisk field, expressed its full support for Namibia’s tailored approach to resource development and emphasised that there is no one size fits all model.
Both leaders also discussed the sustainable management of ocean resources, highlighting the shared responsibility to protect marine ecosystems while advancing energy development.
In conclusion, President Nandi-Ndaitwah lobbied for Norway’s support toward Namibia’s bid to host the African Green Climate Fund Regional Hub, a key initiative that would position Namibia at the forefront of Africa’s climate action and green growth agenda.
