At the 28th Universal Postal Union (UPU) Congress held in Dubai on 19 September 2025, Ms. Linda N. Aipinge-Nakale, Acting Executive Director of Namibia’s Ministry of Information and Communication Technology, delivered a statement highlighting Namibia’s engagement and commitment to the future of the postal sector.
Ms. Aipinge-Nakale expressed warm gratitude to the United Arab Emirates for their hospitality during the two-week congress. She affirmed Namibia’s honor in participating in this global event and praised the adoption of the Dubai Strategy, which charts a forward-looking vision for the postal sector worldwide.
The Acting Executive Director emphasized the crucial role of a modern, inclusive, and sustainable postal system in Namibia’s socio-economic development. She noted that the Dubai Strategy presents a valuable opportunity for Namibia to enhance digital inclusion, boost e-commerce, facilitate cross-border trade, and expand rural access to essential government and financial services. These goals align closely with Namibia’s 6th National Development Plan, where the postal network is seen as a key enabler of job creation, innovation, and improved service delivery.
Namibia reiterated its commitment to collaborate with the UPU and member states to implement the Dubai Strategy effectively. The nation aims to build a resilient, competitive, and people centered postal sector that contributes directly to national growth and development agendas.
In closing, Ms. Aipinge-Nakale congratulated Mr. Masahiko Metoki and Mr. Marjan Osvald on their re-election as Director General and Deputy Director General of the UPU. Namibia also extended best wishes to all members elected to the Council of Administration and Postal Operations Council.
