On 9th September 2025, Honourable Themba N. Masuku, Head of the SADC Electoral Observation Mission (SEOM) to the General Election (Presidential, Parliamentary and Local Government Elections) scheduled for the 16th of September 2025 in the Republic of Malawi paid a Courtesy Call on the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Malawi, Honourable Nancy Gladys Tembo.
The Minister welcomed the Head of Mission and the entire SEOM team to Malawi.
The Head of Mission was accompanied to the meeting by the Director of the SADC Organ on Politics, Defence and Security Affairs, Professor Kula Ishmael Theletsane, Members of the SADC Organ Troika namely the Kingdom of Eswatini and United Republic of Tanzania.
The Incoming Chairperson of the SADC Organ on Politics, Defence and Security Cooperation, His Majesty King Mswati III of the Kingdom of Eswatini, appointed Right Honourable Themba Nhlanganiso Masuku, former Deputy Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Eswatini as the Head of Mission.
Later in the day, the Head of Mission issued certificates to over 80 Election Observers from nine (9) SADC Member States namely Botswana, Eswatini, Lesotho, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe, who will be deployed to all the 28 districts of Malawi.
On 10 September, 2025, the Head of Mission will preside over the Official Launch of the SEOM at the function to be held at the Bingu International Convention Centre (BICC) in Lilongwe, Malawi. The event is meant to announce to the Malawi public on the arrival and presence of the SEOM.
