Her Excellency Dr. Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, President of the Republic of Namibia, addressed a distinguished gathering of traditional leaders from the Kavango East and West regions in Rundu on August 28. The occasion was marked by heartfelt appreciation and a call to continued partnership in steering Namibia toward a brighter future through unity, tradition, and development.
Celebrating Tradition and Leadership
Opening her remarks, President Nandi-Ndaitwah expressed deep gratitude for the unwavering support received from the Kavango East and West regions during the 2024 Presidential and National Assembly elections. She emphasized the crucial role traditional leaders play as custodians of culture and family values the roots and pillars of Namibian society. Echoing the wisdom of Namibia’s founding president, Dr. Sam Nujoma, she reminded attendees that “a nation without culture is like a tree without roots,” underscoring the importance of preserving traditions to nurture communal strength and societal integrity.
Driving Development with Collective Responsibility
President Nandi-Ndaitwah introduced the recently launched sixth Development Plan shaped around eight strategic priorities and seven enablers. Key focal areas include agriculture, sports, youth empowerment, natural resource beneficiation, and improvements in education, health, housing, and land delivery. These programs aim to enhance the quality of life for all Namibians, reinforcing her commitment to inclusive prosperity with the rallying call, “We are too few to be poor.” She stressed the elimination of corruption and urged unity in tackling disagreements within families, traditional authorities, and political spaces through dialogue and respect rather than legal battles that overlook cultural context.
Upholding Traditions and Constitutional Recognition
The President reaffirmed the Namibian Government’s ongoing recognition and respect for Traditional Authorities as enshrined in the Constitution. She emphasized their central role in nation-building and advocated for resolving succession and other internal matters within traditional frameworks. Her call for harmony was a reminder that peace and collaboration amongst all Namibians are essential to national progress.

Concluding her remarks, Dr. Nandi-Ndaitwah inspired all gathered to embrace unity and collaborative leadership. She expressed unwavering hope that, with the guidance and partnership of traditional leaders, Namibia will continue its path toward shared prosperity, cultural pride, and a future filled with promise for every citizen.
