LUSAKA, July 5 — Zambia on Friday launched two initiatives to strengthen horticultural value chains, improve nutrition and enhance rural household incomes. The programs, Smart Farming for Sustainable Livelihoods Project and the One Country One Priority Product Initiative, are supported by the government of South Korea and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO). Zambian Minister of Agriculture Reuben Mtolo Phiri said the initiatives are a testament to the strategic investment in agriculture. “They will help address bottlenecks, improve post-harvest practices, and ensure greater household food and income security,” he said during the launch event. Mtendere Mphatso, FAO’s chief technical advisor in Zambia, said the organization is committed to strengthening Zambia‘s food systems and improving farmer livelihoods through targeted value chain development.
