President Duma Boko has inaugurated Botswanaโs first Sovereign Wealth Fund, calling it a bold step toward reducing reliance on diamonds and safeguarding the nationโs future.
He noted that while diamonds had long sustained Botswana, the recent turbulence in the industry underscored the need for diversification. The fund will focus on long-term savings and investments both locally and internationally.
Boko stressed a shift from routine trips abroad to bringing global expertise directly into Botswana, and thanked the team of professionals overseeing the fund for their dedication and skill.
The launch marks a historic milestone, positioning Botswana for a more resilient and diversified economy beyond diamonds.
