KAMPALA, July 13 — Ugandan international Shamirah Nalugya has joined Belarus Women’s Premier League side FC Minsk to become the first Ugandan female player to join Belarus’ top flight football league. “I am very glad that finally I start a professional journey with FC Minsk. I promise to work hard to give back to the club that has belief in me,” Nalugya told Xinhua. Nalugya recently captained Kampala Queens to winning the Uganda Women’s Premier League title. She also played for the national women’s team in the 2025 CECAFA Women’s Championship held in Tanzania last month. “We are proud to announce that our iconic captain Shamirah Nalugya has officially completed her move to FC Minsk in Belarus for the next one year,” announced FC Kampala Queens. The attacking midfielder said that she was very proud to have been part of the winning team. “Saying goodbye is never easy. But I am leaving with so many great memories and friendships. Thank you everyone at FC Kampala Queens for making my time here so special. I am so grateful for the opportunity since 2022 and will always look back on this with fondness,” Nalugya wrote to her former club.
