Windhoek, February 18 ā Prime Minister Dr Tjitunga Elijah Ngurare called on Members of the National Assembly to prioritize national interest and security above all else as they kick off the new year, invoking the spirit of “One Namibia, One Nation.”
In a statement delivered to the August House on Tuesday, Ngurare emphasized that Namibians’ shared destiny demands unity across political lines. “We are Namibians first, and anything else secondary,” he declared, addressing the lawmakers elected in November 2024 to serve over 3.1 million citizens. “Namibia’s prosperity is our shared passion and responsibility.”
Highlighting the Legislature’s role among the three arms of state alongside the Executive and Judiciary Ngurare stressed that lawmakers must pass legislation to safeguard and advance the nation’s core interests, just as other countries do. He urged MPs to “bounce back as one” on matters of national security, transcending party affiliations.
The Prime Minister quoted President Her Excellency Dr Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah to reinforce the message: “The success of our country does not depend on one singular person, but on each and every citizen. Each and every son and daughter of our soil must become a catalyst for development and change.”
Ngurare tied these principles to the recently launched Sixth National Development Plan (NDP6), which rests on four pillars: sustainable development, people centered approaches, integrated planning, and partnerships. These he said address NDP6’s three core goals wealth creation, improved equality and employment creation forming a collective blueprint for national progress.
The address sets the tone for parliamentary debates in 2026, signaling a push for bipartisan cooperation amid ongoing economic challenges.
