President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has expressed profound sorrow following the passing of Ghana’s former First Lady, Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, who died on 23 October 2025 at the age of 76. Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings was married to the late former President Jerry John Rawlings and was widely respected for her contributions to Ghanaian politics and social advocacy.
In her official condolence message, President Nandi-Ndaitwah highlighted the late First Lady’s tireless leadership in championing women’s rights and empowering communities across Ghana. “Her Excellency Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings was a key figure in the advancement of women, notably through founding the 31 December Women’s Movement. This initiative played a vital role in enhancing entrepreneurship, education, and political participation for Ghanaian women,” President Nandi-Ndaitwah noted.
She further recognized Nana Konadu’s dedication to the emancipation of women at all levels of development, enabling them to fully contribute to their country’s socio-economic and political progress.
On behalf of the Government and people of Namibia, President Nandi-Ndaitwah extended heartfelt condolences to President John Dramani Mahama, Nana Konadu’s family, and the people of Ghana. She affirmed Namibia’s solidarity with Ghana during this period of mourning and offered prayers for peace and comfort.
“May the soul of Her Excellency Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings rest in eternal peace,” President Nandi-Ndaitwah concluded.
