Namibia’s President Urges Climate Justice and Action at COP30

President Dr Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, in her maiden address at COP30, reminded world leaders that those least responsible for climate change often endure its worst impacts. She highlighted Namibia’s struggles with frequent droughts and floods threatening food security and livelihoods, yet emphasized the country’s leadership through sustainable initiatives like the Green Hydrogen Strategy and Oshivela Green Iron Plant.

Stressing the importance of adaptation, the President called for global focus on protecting water sources, strengthening health systems, building resilient infrastructure, and ensuring food security to safeguard vulnerable communities.

She also demanded fair and accessible climate financing, urging wealthy nations and financial institutions to reform systems for predictable, equitable, and affordable funding, noting that developing countries bear the heaviest burden despite minimal contributions to the crisis.

“The world will not judge us by how many climate conferences we host, but by the real actions we take to save our planet,” she declared, linking climate justice to financial justice.
