Windhoek, 9 July 2023 – The Namibia Government on Tuesday 4 July 2023 approves the outcome of the Summit of the Southern African Customs Union (SACU) heads of States and Government held on 29 June 2023 in Mandvulo, Kingdom of Eswatini. According to the press statement, ”the cabinet took note of the outcome of the 8th Summit of the SACU Heads of States or Government and approves the recommendations contained in the report”. The Government of the republic of Namibia directed the Minister of Finance and Public Enterprises to lead a comprehensive assessment on the proposal of the reimagined SACU and implications, including a cost-benefits analysis for Namibia by 30 July 2023.
It further directed the Ministry of Finance and Public Enterprises and Ministry of Industrialization and Trade and the Green Hydrogen Council to undertake an investigation on how the SACU Region can leverage on green hydrogen in Namibia to transform and attract green intensive industries to the region as suggested by under Professor Hausmann’s Presentation on SACU Opportunities during the summit.
