MICT AND LIFELINE/CHILDLINE COLLABORATE ON CYBERSECURITY AWARENESS FOR CHILDREN

Windhoek, Aug 21 – The Ministry of Information and Communication Technology (MICT) and Lifeline/Childline Namibia signed a five-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) today in Windhoek to collaborate on cybersecurity awareness and public education, with a special focus on children.

This partnership aims to enhance public cybersecurity education through initiatives spearheaded by the Lifeline/Childline Namibia. The Focus will be on equipping children with the necessary knowledge to navigate the digital world safely to avert incidents of cybercrimes in Namibia.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, MICT Executive Director Dr. Audrin Mathe stated, “LifeLine/Childline Namibia will complement our ongoing efforts, and we look forward to working with these institutions for the betterment of our citizens. Cybersecurity requires concerted efforts from all sectors, and we call on others to join the government in building a cyber-silient nation.”

Nicolette Bessinger, Director of LifeLine/ChildLine Namibia, applauded the MICT for partnering with their organization to implement the National Cybersecurity strategy and Awareness Creation Plan.

To this end, this partnership will further strengthen the governement’s efforts in reaching out to children of various ages, out of school adults and youth as well as parents, guardians and teachers of these children to educate them on how to protect themselves online in the with the strategy.
