Malawian president appoints 2 more ministers

 

LILONGWE, Oct. 17 — Malawian President Peter Mutharika on Friday appointed Roza Mbilizi, former deputy commissioner general of the Malawi Revenue Authority as minister of agriculture, irrigation and water development; and George Partridge, a banker and corporate manager, as minister of industrialization, business, trade and tourism. Mutharika has also appointed Max Wengawenga, former deputy director of planning in the Ministry of Water and Sanitation, as executive assistant to the president. Chief Secretary to the Government Justin Saidi announced the appointments in two separate statements early Friday, noting that the appointments are with immediate effect. On Oct. 5, one day after he was sworn in, Mutharika made appointments of three cabinet ministers and other senior government officers. Mutharika’s cabinet so far also comprises George Chaponda as minister of foreign affairs, Joseph Mwanamvekha as minister of finance, economic planning and development, and Alfred Gangata as minister of state. The president has yet to appoint ministers in such sectors as information, health, education, transport, mining and energy.
