Hon. Selma Ashipala-Musavyi Honors 71 Years of Algerian Revolution, Celebrating Strong Namibia-Algeria Ties

Hon. Selma Ashipala-Musavyi participated in the commemoration of the 71st Anniversary of the Glorious Algerian Revolution on November 5, 2025. She highlighted the event as a tribute to the courage, resilience, and vision of the Algerian people, who achieved self-determination and freedom after decades of struggle.

In her speech, Hon. Ashipala-Musavyi praised the Democratic Republic of Algeria’s leadership for its lasting dedication to peace, solidarity, and development. She also underscored the deep cooperation between Algeria and Namibia, noting that over 120 Namibian students have benefited from Algerian government scholarships. Currently, three Namibians are pursuing studies in Energy Policy and Water Engineering in Algeria.

Expressing a desire to broaden these educational opportunities, she said, “We aim to expand scholarships to cover other priority areas outlined in Namibia’s 6th National Development Plan.” She emphasized the pride Namibia takes in this collaboration, which fosters strong people-to-people ties and mutual understanding.

H.E. Abdelkrim Diaf, Algeria’s Ambassador to Namibia, reflected on the significance of the celebration. He described it not only as a historical remembrance but as a tribute to the Algerian people’s enduring spirit, which ended 132 years of subjugation. The ambassador also recalled the longstanding friendship between Namibia and Algeria, forged through shared struggles and a joint commitment to a prosperous, sovereign, and united Africa.
