The Ministry of Education, Innovation, Youth, Sports, Arts and Culture (MEYSAC) has launched a nationwide distribution of 1,571 Pre-Primary Kits to classrooms in all 14 regions of Namibia. This N$3 million investment marks a significant move to enhance early childhood education through inclusive, play-based learning.
Procured via UNICEF under a Memorandum of Understanding with the Ministry of Health and Social Services, the kits demonstrate a well-coordinated and transparent effort to deliver quality early learning materials fairly and efficiently in every region.
Developed by UNICEF, each kit is a “treasure box” filled with quality resources such as puzzles, books, building blocks, art supplies, and wash and caregiver guides. These items are designed to help teachers provide engaging, child-centered lessons that develop children’s social, emotional, physical, and cognitive skills by encouraging learning through play.
The rollout began after an official handover ceremony on 28 October 2025 at Dr Frans Aupa Indongo Primary School in Windhoek. Distribution is set to start on 3 November 2025, providing each pre-primary school with one kit per 40 learners to ensure equitable access nationwide.
Honourable Dr Sanet L. Steenkamp, Minister of MEIYSAC, emphasized, “Through these kits, we are investing not only in learning materials but also in the joy, curiosity, and potential of every Namibian child. Early learning must be active, creative, and nurturing, and that is precisely what these kits bring to our classrooms.”
This initiative reaffirms the Government’s strong commitment to quality foundational education by equipping every Namibian child, regardless of location, with the tools and inspiration to learn through play.
