MANDERA, Kenya, March 15 — Officers from Somalia’s National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) killed a Kenyan police officer and injured another in Mandera Town near the shared border, Kenyan police said on Saturday. Police said in a security report that the incident happened at the main border point and targeted officers from Kenya’s Border Patrol Unit (BPU), where five BPU officers manning the Kenya-Somalia border were attacked by about 20 NISA officers. The group opened fire on the Kenyan team, killing police officer Dennis Omari on the spot, according to police. Police added that the attackers grabbed the deceased officer’s G3 rifle with 60 bullets and an AK-47 machine gun with 30 bullets belonging to another officer, and fled the scene. The attackers also shot and injured another officer, who is currently being treated and in stable condition. According to preliminary findings, the motive for the attack was revenge for Kenyan police arresting terror suspects when a group attempted to abduct foreigners in the town in February.
