One of the most defining moments in Namibian history was the decisive conference that took place in Geneva on January 1, 1981, marking a pivotal step in our nation’s journey toward independence. At the helm of the SWAPO delegation stood its esteemed leaders—Dr. Sam Shafiishuna Nujoma, flanked by fellow freedom fighters Hidipo Hamutenya and Theo-Ben Gurirab—a powerful trio representing the unwavering spirit of the Namibian people on the global stage.
Dr. Nujoma’s presence at this crucial event, alongside his comrades, signified Namibia’s rightful place in the international community and reinforced the fight for self-determination, justice, and freedom.
As we remember this historic moment, we honour Dr. Nujoma’s legacy—a man whose vision, courage, and sacrifice laid the foundation for the Namibia we cherish today. His leadership not only shaped our nation but also inspired generations to uphold the values of unity, progress, and sovereignty.
May his unwavering spirit continue to guide us as we build on the foundations he so fearlessly established.
