Zambia unveils AI strategy to drive digital transformation

 

LUSAKA, Nov. 22 — Zambia on Thursday launched its artificial intelligence (AI) strategy, aimed at harnessing the full potential of the technology. The strategy is built on five key pillars, namely enhancing connectivity through digital trees, ensuring reliable data for efficiency and sustainability, safeguarding cyberspace by building trust and confidence, fostering innovation and entrepreneurship, and creating a platform for partnership and collaboration to exchange ideas and sustain innovation. Minister of Technology and Science Felix Mutati described the launch of the strategy as a milestone that would guide the country in its strategic approach to leveraging AI. He emphasized that the strategy would drive Zambia‘s digital transformation by creating wealth and jobs. “Artificial intelligence is expediting global economic paradigm shifts, a precision technological catalyst that the nation must implement by firstly securing an enabling technology environment to achieve the digital revolution,” he said. According to him, the technology would improve public service delivery by ensuring efficiency, convenience, and the elimination of redundancy. Mutati further noted that AI would provide an opportunity for innovators and entrepreneurs to speed up their innovation, calling the technology a beacon of hope for Zambia. He commended local experts for their contributions to the development of the strategy, which was created in collaboration with external partners.
