Rundu, Aug 26 — Sven-Goran Eriksson has died aged 76 after battling cancer, with tributes flooding in to salute the former England manager. David Beckham, Wayne Rooney and the Prime Minister are among those to express their condolences after Eriksson’s family announced his death. Eriksson’s managerial career spanned four decades, including becoming England’s first overseas manager. Tributes have flooded in from across the football world after Sven-Goran Eriksson, England’s first foreign manager, died aged 76.Eriksson revealed he had been diagnosed with terminal cancer earlier this year, having learnt of his diagnosis in 2023.
A host of his former players, including David Beckham, Wayne Rooney and Michael Owen, led the acclaim along with many of the clubs he managed across four glittering decades in the dugout.
Eriksson led England to three major quarter-finals in his five-year spell as manager, at the 2002 and 2006 World Cups and Euro 2004.The national side published a tribute to their former manager, saying: “We are deeply saddened that Sven-Goran Eriksson, who managed the Three Lions from 2001 to 2006, has passed away aged 76.
“Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this time. Rest in peace, Sven. You will be greatly missed.”
