WINDHOEK, June 25– Namibia and Zambia on Friday inked a bilateral agreement to establish a One-Stop Border Post (OSBP) at the Katima Mulilo Border Post, aimed at enhancing efficiency in cross-border trade and bolstering regional security.
The agreement, signed in Namibia’s Zambezi region town of Katima Mulilo, marks a significant milestone in the collaboration between the two neighboring countries.
Speaking at the signing ceremony in Namibia’s border town of Katima Mulilo, Lawrence Sampofu, the Zambezi Regional governor representing Namibia, underscored the agreement’s importance, highlighting its role in strengthening the longstanding ties between Namibia and Zambia.
He emphasized that the OSBP will streamline trade processes, ensuring smoother transit across borders while reinforcing security measures in the region.
Also speaking at the same event, Zambian Minister of Commerce, Trade and Industry Chipoka Mulenga echoed the same sentiments, emphasizing the broader impact on regional trade dynamics. He emphasized that establishing the OSBP signifies a commitment to facilitating seamless trade operations between the two nations, noting that the agreement will not only enhance economic cooperation but also position Namibia and Zambia as leaders in intra-Africa trade.
The OSBP at Katima Mulilo is set to become Namibia’s second, following the advanced stages of construction at the Trans Kalahari/Mamuno Border Post.
Once operational, these facilities will consolidate border control operations into a single location, reducing transit times and improving the efficiency of customs procedures, the Namibia Revenue Agency said in a statement.
