Tanzania’s communications regulator says internet outage caused by failure of submarine optic fiber

 DAR ES SALAAM, May 16 -- The Tanzania Communications Regulatory Authority (TCRA) said late Monday that poor internet services began on Sunday and were caused by the failure of submarine optic fiber cables.
   The TCRA said in a statement that the problematic submarine optic fiber cables between Mozambique and South Africa are owned by SEACOM, a global high-speed data network, and the East Africa Submarine Cable.
   The statement signed by TCRA Director General Jabiri Bakari said the problem has affected the availability of internet services across the East African country, bringing businesses to a standstill for the past three days.
   According to the statement, all service providers have made urgent efforts, and internet services have been partially restored through alternative links.
   In addition, the statement said the availability of internet services using alternative links will continue to improve as each service provider continues to ensure that internet services are fully restored.
   The TCRA is closely monitoring this issue, and each internet service provider will continue to provide regular updates on the availability of internet services based on ongoing efforts.
