Kenya Airways suspends flights to DR Congo amid detention of its workers

NAIROBI, April 30 — Kenya Airways said on Monday that it has suspended its flights to Kinshasa, the capital of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), from Tuesday due to the continued detention of two of its employees since April 19 over cargo issues.

April 30 until we can effectively support these flights,” Kenya Airways Airline CEO Allan Kilavuka said in a statement issued in Nairobi, the capital of Kenya.
Kenya Airways said on Friday that two of its employees were detained at its Kinshasa airport office over missing documentation for cargo the airline had not accepted. The airline said the cargo was “valuable,” without specifying its contents.
Kilavuka said on Monday that the continued detention of the two employees has made it difficult for them to supervise operations in Kinshasa, which include customer service, ground handling, cargo activities, and generally ensuring safe, secure, and efficient operations. Kilavuka said the airliner is continuing to cooperate with the investigating agencies and the relevant government entities in the
DRC and Kenya to resolve this matter.
