WINDHOEK, March 22 — Namibian President Nangolo Mbumba hailed the nation’s journey toward prosperity while emphasizing the importance of unity and collective effort during the country’s 34th Independence Day Anniversary event on Thursday. Held for the first time in Katima Mulilo in the Zambezi Region, the event brought together dignitaries, officials and citizens to commemorate the historic occasion. Reflecting on the significance of independence, Mbumba underscored its pivotal role in affirming the dignity and humanity of the Namibian people. He paid tribute to the courageous individuals, including those from the Zambezi Region, whose sacrifices paved the way for freedom, peace and unity in the country.
“Their unwavering determination and laudable gallantry, culminated in the attainment of the freedom, peace, stability, and unity that all citizens of the Namibian House enjoy today,” he said. Addressing concerns about peace and security, Mbumba called for vigilance against internal and external threats, and urged unity in safeguarding the nation’s stability and development. Looking ahead, Mbumba expressed optimism about Namibia’s economic potential, citing recent discoveries in oil and gas, investments in green hydrogen, and ambitious infrastructure projects. Mbumba, meanwhile, said since this is an election year, he called on the citizens to play their roles in ensuring that law and order prevail and that peaceful, credible and fair elections will be held. “We all have a collective responsibility to ensure that Namibia maintains its reputation as a peaceful and stable country,” he said.
