LILONGWE, March 4– Six Malawian students stand a chance to battle it out in the Huawei ICT Competition 2023/2024 Global finals in May in China after they secured entry to the Southern Africa Regional Finals. Huawei Malawi announced that 400 students from 12 tertiary institutions participated in the annual competition. After registering from September to November 2023 and taking preliminary and national exams in December, six students advanced to the regional finals held Friday. Huawei’s Southern Africa Region countries includes South Africa, Nigeria, Kenya, Angola, Rwanda, Ghana, Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zimbabwe, Botswana, Namibia and other countries. “This is the second year in a row that Malawi has made it to the regional finals level in two tracks: Network, and Cloud,” read the statement. The winners in the regional finals are expected to be released Wednesday. If the Malawian teams win, they will fly to China to represent the region in the Global Finals in May 2024. Huawei organizes an annual competitive ICT talent exchange event for global university students. The initiative aims to “promote the healthy development of the ICT talent ecosystem and foster integration between industry and education.”
