DAR ES SALAAM, Oct. 6 — Tanzania on Monday launched information and communication technology (ICT) training for 700 public secondary school teachers from across the country to strengthen digital skills and improve teaching and learning. The training is co-organized by the Universal Communications Service Access Fund (UCSAF) in partnership with the University of Dodoma, Mbeya University of Science and Technology, the University of Dar es Salaam and the Open University of Tanzania, according to a statement issued by the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology. The statement said that the participating teachers are drawn from 26 regions of mainland Tanzania and five regions in Zanzibar, with 100 of them visually impaired. Speaking at the launch, Minister for Communication and Information Technology Angellah Kairuki said the training would equip teachers with the necessary skills to integrate ICT into lesson preparation, examinations, and the teaching of various subjects, particularly science and technology. She added that the teachers would also learn how to operate ICT equipment and conduct basic maintenance, which will help schools make better use of the equipment while reducing maintenance costs.
