MOGADISHU, Sept. 30 — Somali Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre on Monday ordered the Danab commando unit to step up nationwide counter-terrorism operations.
Barre, who presided over the graduation ceremony of the 12th class of the 16th Danab Brigade in Lower Shabelle, southern Somalia, urged the troops to play an active role in securing Somalia and restoring stability.He stressed that specially trained forces are central to operations against terrorist groups and those undermining Somalia’s statehood. The prime minister instructed the troops to uphold national unity, the rule of law and the dignity of the Somali people, emphasizing that success depends on close coordination among government institutions, the armed forces and the public. Defense Minister Ahmed Moallim Fiqi congratulated the troops on completing their training, stating that a soldier’s duty extends beyond combat to protecting the nation and its people. He urged the commandos to uphold strict military discipline and regulations while demonstrating integrity, vigilance and responsibility.
The minister also emphasized the importance of safeguarding the honor and reputation of the Somali National Armed Forces. Ibrahim Mohamed Mohamud, commander of the Somali National Armed Forces, highlighted ongoing efforts to strengthen military capabilities through specialized training and professional development. Mohamud noted that the 12th Danab cohort underwent rigorous training to prepare for demanding combat duties, urging the graduates to translate skills into effective service. The ceremony concluded with tactical demonstrations showcasing the troops’ proficiency and readiness to launch operations against terrorist groups and forces opposing Somalia’s statehood.
