BEIJING, July 15 — Taiwan’s Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authorities have ignored economic principles and market forces in attempting to decouple the island’s industries from the mainland, a mainland spokesperson said Wednesday.
Zhu Fenglian, spokesperson for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, made the remarks at a media conference in response to a question citing a Taiwan economic official’s claim of plans to decouple from the mainland and strengthen ties with “democratic” countries in the supply chains of several “key” sectors. Zhu said industrial supply chain cooperation across the Taiwan Strait has continued to deepen, citing a 25.3-percent year-on-year increase in total bilateral trade value in the first half of this year. She warned that the DPP authorities’ moves to sell out Taiwan’s competitive industries to external forces in order to decouple from the mainland would harm the island’s economy and the interests of enterprises and individuals there, while undermining global economic stability and disrupting normal international trade.
