KAMPALA, June 16 — Uganda’s Ministry of Health said on Monday that travelers leaving the country do not need Ebola-free certificates, and that such certificates are not required for visa applications to any destination.
In a statement issued here, the ministry urged the public to remain vigilant and avoid falling victim to fraudsters claiming to provide Ebola testing or certificates to facilitate travel, employment or visa processing. The ministry’s warning comes amid reports that some countries have imposed travel restrictions on travelers arriving from or departing Uganda following the Ebola outbreak in the East African country. According to the ministry, Ebola testing is recommended only for individuals who develop symptoms consistent with the disease or those identified as contacts of confirmed Ebola cases. Government data show that Uganda has not recorded any new Ebola cases in the past 10 days, with the cumulative number of confirmed cases remaining at 19.
