KAMPALA, Dec. 15 — Uganda has stepped up security nationwide ahead of the Christmas and New Year festive season, police said Monday. Uganda Police Force spokesperson Kituuma Rusoke told reporters during a press briefing that the enhanced security measures are aimed at curbing a rise in criminal activity typically recorded during the holiday period. “All security agencies are on heightened alert to ensure that people across the country celebrate in a peaceful and orderly manner,” Rusoke said. He urged members of the public to cooperate closely with the police in their respective communities to help ensure safety, especially as many people travel back to their home areas for the holidays. Rusoke added that traffic police will intensify enforcement to ensure compliance with traffic rules and regulations, noting that cases of drunk driving, overloading and reckless driving tend to increase during the festive season
