Namibia calls on Youth participation during local and regional elections

WINDHOEK, Nov. 27– Namibians headed to the polls on Wednesday to participate in the country’s regional council and local authority elections at polling stations established in 120 constituencies and 59 local authorities. According to the Electoral Commission of Namibia, the elections aim to choose leaders who will accelerate service delivery, particularly in providing basic services such as water, housing, healthcare, education, food and nutrition, electricity, transport and job creation at the grassroots level. The election process began with two days of special voting starting on Monday, followed by the main voting day on Wednesday. The special voting period was designated for uniformed personnel, including police officers, members of the Namibian Defense Force and polling staff. After casting his vote Wednesday morning at Academia Secondary School in Windhoek, Prime Minister Elijah Ngurare called on all registered voters, especially the youth, to go out and exercise their democratic right. The regional council and local authority elections, held every five years, determine the composition of key bodies responsible for regional development and local service delivery.
