On 7 November 2025, the Republic of Namibia witnessed a historic moment with the official handover of the Etunda Primary School and Clinic at Etunda Farm in the Otjozondjupa Region. This momentous occasion was marked by a keynote address from Her Excellency Lucia Witbooi, Vice President of Namibia, who highlighted the vision and legacy of the late Founding President Dr. Sam Shaafiishuna Nujoma.
The Etunda Farm Primary School and Clinic project, initiated by President Nujoma on his private farm near Otavi named after his birthplace was conceived to uplift farm workers and rural communities by providing access to quality education and healthcare. Since the clinic has been operational since 2017, serving the local population, the school and accompanying hostel were nearing completion at the time of the handover.
Vice President Witbooi expressed deep gratitude on behalf of the Namibian government and the Otjozondjupa Region to the Nujoma Family for donating close to 16 hectares of land and fully equipped facilities valued at over N$25 million. The clinic employs 12 staff members, including a medical doctor, while the school accommodates 240 learners with adequate teaching and administrative staff. The onsite hostel is designed to house 100 boarders alongside caretakers.
The project embodies President Nujoma’s firm belief that every child should have access to education from kindergarten through university, addressing the cycle of generational poverty among farm workers’ children. President Nujoma personally contributed resources, including bricks and mobilizing support from notable companies and international partners.
This initiative serves not only as a model for public-private partnerships but also aligns with Namibia’s national Vision 2030, aiming to ensure healthcare and education reach marginalized communities for sustainable development. The Vice President urged all stakeholders to assist in completing additional infrastructure, such as fencing, boreholes, and essential civil works, to enable the school to fully open in 2026.
Additionally, the integrated clinic and school promote a holistic approach to community welfare, where health and education reinforce one another. Vice President Witbooi underscored the importance of promoting healthy lifestyles to prevent lifestyle diseases and encouraged the Etunda School learners to engage in agricultural activities, fostering self-reliance and environmental awareness in tribute to President Nujoma’s call for food security and tree planting.
Concluding her address, Vice President Witbooi called upon all Namibians to emulate the late Founding President’s selfless example by working together to realize his dream, ensuring that Namibia’s children are educated and healthy, securing a prosperous future for the nation.
“This project stands as a beacon of hope, unity, and progress for generations to come,” she declared, honoring the legacy of Dr. Sam Nujoma not just with words but with continued commitment and action.
