DAR ES SALAAM, Oct. 26 — The Tanzania Police Force on Sunday assured citizens that the country remains calm and secure ahead of the Oct. 29 general elections, urging all registered voters to turn out in large numbers and exercise their constitutional right to vote peacefully. The police said in a statement that national security is stable and that there are no threats that could disrupt the voting process scheduled for Wednesday. “The security situation in our country is very calm, and there is no threat that could prevent the elections from taking place peacefully,” said the statement. The police encouraged voters to participate fully in the electoral process, while warning individuals or groups against any attempts to disrupt public order during or after the voting exercise. “We are fully prepared to take legal action against anyone who deliberately or maliciously violates the law or attempts to threaten peace and security under any pretext,” the statement said. The reassurance comes as Tanzania prepares for the upcoming general elections, expected to draw millions of voters to polling stations across the country to elect the president, members of parliament, and councillors.
