Ambassador Leonard N. Iipumbu Appointed Namibia’s Ambassador to Angola

The Office of the President has announced the appointment of Ambassador Leonard N. Iipumbu as Namibia’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Republic of Angola.

Ambassador Iipumbu brings over thirty years of experience in international relations, governance, and public administration. He has notably served Namibia both domestically and internationally, advancing the country’s foreign policy goals and enhancing its global presence.

Previously, he was Namibia’s Ambassador to the United States, with concurrent accreditation to Brazil, Canada, and Mexico. He also served as Ambassador to France, overseeing non-resident duties for Italy, Portugal, and Spain, while representing Namibia as Delegate to UNESCO. More recently, he was State Chief of Protocol in the Ministry of International Relations and Cooperation, coordinating high-level engagements and protecting Namibia’s diplomatic interests with distinction.

Ambassador Iipumbu holds a Master’s Degree in International Services from the American University, Washington, D.C., and a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics and Financial Management from the Institut Supérieur de Gestion (ISG) in Paris, France.

A veteran of Namibia’s liberation struggle, he fought with the People’s Liberation Army of Namibia (PLAN) and served as SWAPO’s Chief Representative in Zambia, Botswana, and the People’s Republic of Congo.

His new role in Angola will focus on deepening the strong friendship and solidarity between the two countries, rooted in shared history, culture, and sacrifice. Ambassador Iipumbu’s appointment underscores Namibia’s dedication to expanding bilateral cooperation in trade, energy, infrastructure, and regional security, while fostering integration and prosperity within the Southern African Development Community (SADC).

Her Excellency, Dr. Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, President of Namibia, congratulates Ambassador Iipumbu on his appointment and wishes him success in this vital role serving the Namibian nation.
