Malawi makes Namibia ‘s road to FIFA 2026 World Cup hard

Francistown, Sept 5 – Namibia ‘s quest towards the 2026 FIFA World Cup to be hosted by Canada, Mexico, and the United States has been made hard by Malawi ‘s defeat at the so called “home ground” of the Namibia’s Brave Warriors which is now Obed Itani Chilume Stadium in Francistown, Botswana. Namibia conceded the first goal of the match in 5 minutes of the first half with a goal from Richard Mbulu of Malawi. Malawi doubled the scoreline with a goal from Gabadinho Mhango in the 53rd minutes of the game.Namibia got their consolation goal from David “Haland” Ndeunyema in the dying minutes of the game.

The coach of Malawi Kalisto Pasuwa said that after coming from a loss, a win was very important for them. “What we wanted was to win and bring confidence to the team. We are trying to build up a team that will compete next year in AFCON.”

Namibia coach Colin Benjamin believe they still have everything to play for.”Obviously, at the moment, we to have to look, comedown, and analyze it even though you can actually see that we were totally in control. We made silly mistakes, and it need to be minimized.”

Namibia will now shift focus to their next FIFA World Cup Qualifiers game on Tuesday, 9 September 2025, at the same venue against Sao Tomé and Príncipe.
