Today, 29 August 2025, the Minister of Education, Innovation, Youth, Sports, Arts and Culture, Hon. Sanet L. Steenkamp, together with Executive Director Mr. Gerard Vries and the technical team from the National Heritage Council, met with the German Ambassador, H.E. Thorsten Hutter, and representatives of the Portuguese Communities Council in Walvis Bay. The meeting focused on the draft agreement and ongoing efforts regarding the restitution of the historic Stone Cross of Cape Cross, including its proposed relocation, restoration and conservation.
Erected in 1486 by the explorer Diego Cão upon his arrival at Cape Cross, the Stone Cross is a significant cultural and historical landmark, symbolizing Namibia’s rich heritage.
